Hungary - Our Mission
Our plight in Hungary has been massive, bigger than we ever imagined. We were contacted by another Rescue in Europe asking if we could help a shelter that was overrun with rescued Frenchies, in a small village in Hungary…. Dogs bred purely for money then having their babies removed to be exported into other parts of Europe, and the UK been the biggest importer. Mums been taken to the kill shelters once they had finished breeding, passed on for bait if they had a health issue or were unwanted. We as a rescue could not sit back and say no!
We took our first trip over in March 2019 and every month a team from FBS spent a week helping Etta and her family, (pre COVID) and more importantly the dogs got the care they needed and the vet treatment they never had. We now pay to transport the dogs into the UK to find their forever sofa and get the love, attention, and vet care that they never received. To date we have helped over 300 dogs find their home in the UK.
Once all COVID restrictions are lifted we will return to Hungary monthly and continue where we left off. We are always looking for volunteers to join us (SELF FUNDED), so if you are looking for experience in Animal Welfare or have a passion for animals and would like to join us for a week then please do get in touch.
In February 2021 we purchased our own transport van which we named “FREEDOM” with the help of our supporters, this enables us to travel over to Hungary when ever the dogs are ready for transport and keep the costs very low. We try to make the journey every 21 days travelling across Europe to get to the kennels.
All our drivers and attendees have a Competence Certificate and are also First Aid Trained, so should anything happen these dogs are in the best hands.
Our van can carry 25 dogs around the UK or 20 across Europe very comfortably, we have a temperature controlled environment for them to make their journey a first class experience. If any dog needs emergency treatment whilst in transport we work with trusted vets throughout Europe so 1 is always on hand.
